UK online fashion retailer Asos has reported a 93 per cent increase in its annual profits, highlighting the growing importance and performance of the ecommerce sector.
The company has also recorded a 63 per cent increase in active customers, boosting their number to 1.2 million at the end of May 2009 as international sales jumped by 303 per cent to £32.2 million.
Coming on the back of the successful launch of online platforms including Asos Outlet, Designer Brands at Asos and Little Asos, the success has been attributed to online retail growth.
"The continued popularity of internet shopping provided a strong back-drop and, with the weakness in sterling, our international sales took a significant step-up," explained company chief executive Nick Robertson.
"We continued our programme of investment throughout the year, delivering a number of product initiatives while building our team and infrastructure to support these superior levels of growth."
The Asos Annual Report & Accounts 2008 revealed that the company is second in the UK online clothing market with 3.4 million visitors per month.
